Global Union 2012 comes to Humboldt Park, Saturday, September 15, noon to 6:00 p.m. This year we are ONE DAY ONLY, still FREE, and still Milwaukee’s BEST END OF SUMMER DANCE/PICNIC/HANG WITH YOUR FRIENDS PARTY . For the next four weeks, we’ll be introducing each of the bands performing at this year’s festival. First up, PANORAMA JAZZ BAND.
The Panorama Jazz Band (click the photo to see a cool video) has been working steadily in New Orleans since 1995. As well as jazz (in the tradition of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, and Sidney Bechet), this group has brought a New Orleans approach to various genres of music from around the world – especially Eastern Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. Their love of their home town inspires every note they play, and their fascination with music from other cultures has given them a vast and varied repertoire and made them a favorite of music fans all over (as evidenced in the above video of their crowd-pleasing show at the Istanbul Jazz Festival.)
Global Union happens because enough folks think it’s a great idea that Milwaukee has a first-class FREE world music festival.
